In 2026, Hyrule Field still wakes with a fisherman’s hush. The grass leans into the wind, the rivers flash like tossed coins, and Link—ever the collector—knows that every shimmering shape in the water might be another useful material. In Tears of the Kingdom, materials are the quiet engines of adventure: they fuel fusion, cooking, and armor upgrades. Among them, the Hyrule Bass is no legendary catch. It is a modest, silver-scaled regular, a quiet celebrity of ponds and rivers. Yet ask any seasoned traveler, and they will tell you that a full satchel of bass is a small fortune in patience.

The Hyrule Bass prefers the rivers and ponds of Hyrule Field, but in a world this grand, pinning down the perfect fishing spot can feel like chasing a rumor. Link learns quickly that preparation matters. He brings a bow and arrows he does not mind breaking, plus armor that improves swim speed and enough stamina wheels to keep from drowning mid-catch. The water, after all, is patient. It waits for overconfident swimmers.
The Pond That Keeps a Secret
His favorite destination is the Bottomless Pond, a bright lid over a shy secret. The bass gather in the larger part of the pond at coordinates 0500, -0556, 0064. The closest fast travel point is Tajikats Shrine at 0344, -1006, 0016, near Riverside Stable. The pond sits just north of both landmarks; travelers coming from Lookout Landing can simply head southeast. Giant lily pads offer a steady perch, and from there Link can watch Hyrule Bass and Staminoka Bass drift below.

Three Ways to Land a Bass
Link has learned that fishing is less about brute force and more about choosing the right trick. There are three reliable paths.
-
🏹 Bow and Ultrahand. Shoot a bass with an arrow, then use Ultrahand to lift the floating catch. It is simple, direct, and hard on bows.
-
⚡ Shock Fruit or Yellow Chuchu Jelly. Throw one into the water and a dome of electricity blooms outward. Stay back—if Link is too close, he will get shocked and drop his weapons or shield. Despite the danger, this is arguably the best method: one Shock Fruit can take out a handful of Hyrule Bass. Once they float up, Link can dive in or use Ultrahand.
-
🛒 Buy them. The Lookout Landing store sells three Hyrule Bass at 24 rupees each, or 72 rupees for the lot. More merchandise appears as the Regional Phenomena main quest advances, and the shop restocks every 24 in-game hours. Passing time at an inn or campfire resets the stock.

There is no shame in taking the easy road, especially when rupees are tight. Saving coin for armor is often wiser than spending it on fish. Still, for a traveler in a hurry, the shop is a convenient shortcut. For Link, the pond remains the more satisfying teacher.
Cooking, Roasting, and the Zora Set
Ironically, Hyrule Bass can be eaten raw. It restores only one heart, so cooking is the better play. It works in any recipe that calls for non-specific fish, including the Meat and Seafood Fry and its variants:
| Ingredient | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Hyrule Bass | x1 |
| Raw Meat | x1 |
A Roasted Bass appears when Link drops a Hyrule Bass into a fire—not a cooking pot—and picks it up after a few seconds. It restores one and a half hearts, a modest improvement. More importantly, Hyrule Bass feeds armor upgrades, and those can only be handled by a Great Fairy. Link must begin the Potential Princess Sightings! side adventure at the Lucky Clover Gazette, then complete Serenade to a Great Fairy at the Woodland Stable. That unlocks the other Great Fairy locations. Maxing out armor means unlocking every fountain.
The Zora Set is the headline customer. Pushing it to level 2 or ★★ unlocks the set bonus: decreased stamina use when dashing in the water. That is the whole ballgame for swimmers, and it may be worth farming 15 Hyrule Bass. The pond gives, the fairy improves, and Link moves a little faster through every river in Hyrule.

By dusk, Link leaves Bottomless Pond with a damp satchel and a quiet grin. The bass are small, silver, and stubbornly ordinary—but in the right hands, they are another step toward a stronger journey.
